Haunted Toothbrush!

How many times have we said about a malfunctioning electronic, "This thing is possessed!" Connecticut's Norwalk Citizen has a hilarious article I just read that addressed that very thing. The writer relays his story about his electric toothbrush being haunted. It's a fun read and made me think of "haunted" electronics I may have owned in the past. Those that spook me the most are the toy fire engines and ambulances my son has that light up and blare in the middle of the night for not reason at all. It makes me want to yank the batteries out of them the way this guy did with his toothbrush.

Opacity: For the Urban Explorer in You

My sister recently sent me this link. It's a site called Opacity, devoted to urban ruins in the Northeast. Here's what they write about themselves:

This site is dedicated to documenting various abandoned places through both text and photographs; recording their transformations through time before they are demolished. The abundance of abandoned asylums and psychiatric hospitals in the New England area create the bulk of the locations here; these beautiful state funded structures are vast and complex, giving insight to both the humanity and mistreatment towards the mentally ill over the past two centuries.

They include Byberry (Philadelphia State Hospital) on the site, which my sister was always interested in. Unfortunately before she could see it, it was demolished.

The site also includes Norwich State Hospital in CT, which I've been to. Very creepy. At the time I had a camera that generated prints (remember those?) instead of a digital camera. I wish I could find those pictures because there were some great shots.

Photo of the Week - Dark Figure on CT Trolley Tracks

My friend sent me this story about a mysterious figure in black that appeared on the Connecticut Trolley Museum tracks. A guy was out taking photos at dusk and later discovered this figure in the picture (along with a couple others). It was later learned that a cemetery has been relocated near the rail line. . .

INTERESTING CNN INTERVIEW: A HAUNTING IN CT

I'm finishing up my column on The Haunting in Connecticut and found this interesting CNN interview with Carmen Snedeker. She's the woman who lived in the Southington, CT house, which was the subject of the movie and the Discovery documentary, A Haunting in Connecticut.

In the interview she told CNN that she:

• is writing her own account of what happened in the house
• that she has always been sensitive to the paranormal and that might be why she and her family were visited by the presence in the house
• that she feels terrible about sending her son, Matt, off to a mental hospital
• and that Matt, who is now thirty-five, is cured of his cancer.

A HAUNTING IN CT: TWO INTERSTING CLIPS

I'm working on a column about A Haunting in Connecticut and came across these two interesting clips on Youtube.

The first is a very old clip from A Current Affair concerning the haunting on which the movie is based. The clip features Ed and Lorraine Warren as well as Carmen Snedeker who lived in the house at the time and claimed it was haunted and that her family was physically attacked by a demon. The people from A Current Affair obviously think this all a bunch of BS as well as some others they interview. Interestingly, the person who posted the clip (to the background music of Radiohead) claims that they lived in the house at one point and never experienced any supernatural phenomenon:




Then I found this nice interview with Lorraine Warren in which she discusses how she found out that she had supernatural abilities. She also claims the most haunted places she and her late husband Ed have investigated were in the UK as well as in CT and the East Coast. In addition, she sweetly describes meeting Ed:

DUDLEY TOWN: CURSED TOWN

Ghost Village has a feature today on Dudley Town - a deserted town in Cornwall, CT that is said to have been cursed. I've actually been to this place many years ago with some friends on a ghost tour given by Ed and Lorraine Warren. I can say first hand that this place is weird.

It was the middle of spring and not a bird, insect, or wild animal could be heard despite the lush forest. When we were set to leave, the Warren's car mysteriously refused to start and we had to bring them to a nearby gas station to get things running again.

While I can honestly say that while I was there, I didn't feel anything was truly amiss, I do feel that something "followed" me home. Strange things (So strange I'm not even going to try to explain them here) happened after I returned and didn't leave until about two weeks later.
